Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 Review

Updated on March 20, 2012

Samsung Galaxy WiFi 5.0 (also known as Galaxy Player in some countries) is a smart multimedia player with the features of a tablet and a multimedia player (like iPod Touch) blended in one device.

The most peculiar aspect of the device is the 5" touch screen. The screen is much bigger than comparable phone/media player products, however smaller than tablet computers. The Samsung Galaxy WiFi 5.0 is just a new member of Samsung's niche market "a tablet that fits your pocket" (Samsung Galaxy Note is also released with a similar 5.3" screen). The 5" screen provides a good media player experience but 800x480 resolution lacks the true HD quality.

.The device is equipped with a 1GHz processor, so you may expect a similar performance to Samsung Galaxy S which is equipped with same processor (not as good as Galaxy S II which has 1.2GHz processor). The 2500 mAh battery provides a very good battery life (over 60 hours of audio according to Samsung). Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 comes up with 8GB storage which can be easily (and cheaply) be upgraded with additional 32GB Micro SD. Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 comes with Android 2.2 Froyo OS however there's an unofficial Android 2.3 Gingerbread update which is expected to be officially released soon.

The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 has a 3.2Mp camera with LED flashlight backside and a VGA camera on front side. The camera has a good overall quality, gives good results at bright light however do not expect miracles in dark environments.

Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 is equipped with good connectivity features; WiFi, bluetooth, GPS and a FM radio. The sound quality is good with the stock headphones and you can expect a high , quality sound from the device speakers.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 is a good multimedia device, a good rival to iPod Touch with a competitive price and expandable memory and a good alternative to people hesitating between a tablet and a multimedia device. If you have a solid phone that you don't need to change, Samsung Galaxy S WiFÄ° 5.0 is a good solution to cover your tablet and smart phone needs at a reasonable price.
